Avocado ice cream is a delicious treat to enjoy while getting all of the health benefits of avocados. I created this avocado ice cream recipe to make a dairy free and refined sugar free version of some of the recipes I found.

I love avocados, I love them so much I have one every day with lunch. So, when I came across an avocado ice cream recipe, I knew I had to make some. Avocados are the perfect fruit for making “ice cream” because they are so creamy!

This avocado ice cream might look a little like the pistachio ice cream with the green food coloring that your friends used to love, but it’s green because of the avocados! Not only is it super-delicious and yummy, but it’s healthy too, so indulge as much as you want!

I’ve been trying to sneak more avocados into my family’s diet because they are so healthy. This ice cream is an easy way to get the great health benefits of avocados! My family loves this avocado ice cream recipe and usually asks me to make more anytime we don’t have some in the freezer.

Why is this Avocado Ice Cream Recipe so Healthy?

First of all, I have to say that this avocado ice cream recipe is great because it’s a good option for anyone that is either dairy free, gluten free, egg free or nut free! It’s even Paleo!

The main ingredient in this ice cream is avocados, a super-food for your health. I don’t like to go a day without an avocado! I like to have one at lunch, in a salad or even just alone! One reason avocados are beneficial to health is because they are an excellent source of vitamins, such as E and K and many minerals, like potassium and magnesium.

Secondly, avocados boast that they are a wonderful source of carotenoids and these are most ample right beneath the skin. Studies have found that carotenoids are involved in adding to the anti-inflammatory properties of vegetables. You may have heard of them under the names of beta-carotene, lutein or alpha-carotene.

But, most famously, avocados are known for being full of healthy fats! These fats are great because they have been found to boost the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients (the carotenoids above) in the foods that you eat with it! Also, these healthy fats are wonderful because they hold you over to the next meal!!!

Besides being anti-inflammatory, nutrient and healthy fat rich, another bonus you get from avocados is they are good for your liver. They also help you absorb fat soluble nutrients and have been found to prevent and treat oral cancer cells!Avocado Ice Cream Recipe - Dairy free, gluten free and paleo (2)

How I Created this Dairy Free Recipe for Avocado Ice Cream

I’ve seen other avocado ice cream recipes on Pinterest and they look so delicious, but many of the recipes had milk and refined sugar. I try to avoid all refined sugar as it is not good for your health. Refined sugar has been found to feed cancer cells, cause headaches and depression. It has also been found to exacerbate so many health conditions. I started experimenting by combining and subtracting parts of different avocado ice cream recipes I found. I also wanted to make the recipe as simple as possible. I’m currently on a dairy free diet, so I wanted to find an alternative to the milk in most of the recipes as well. All you need for this recipe is 4 ingredients and you can make it in 10 minutes, no ice cream maker needed!

Key to Using a Perfectly Ripe Avocado

When you’re ready to make this avocado ice cream recipe, be sure to have some great ripe avocados. Ripe avocados are best for making the ice cream because they are soft and easy to mash.

How do you know if the avocado is ready to use for this ice cream? It will be very dark and if you press on it your finger will sink in a bit. If it doesn’t budge then you know it’s too hard.

By the way…. to get the best health benefits from the avocado it is suggested to peel the skin off, like a banana. This way you will be sure to get the meat right below the skin.Avocado Ice Cream Recipe - Dairy free, gluten free and paleo (3)

Can I use regular honey, and does the coconut milk need to be full fat? Thanks! Can’t wait to try!

This had a little too much honey for my taste, but I loved the consistency and just added a bit more avocado and some banana to tone it down. I would just recommend adding honey to taste in the future. Thank you for this recipe! 🙂

Hi! Looking forward to trying this out. Do you mean coconut milk beverage often sold in a cardboard quart, or a can of coconut milk?

I dont understand why the write up says theres no sugar when the recipe includes 1/4 cup of Honey. There isn’t much difference between the 2. While Honey is better for you, it’s still sugar, just not processed table sugar. Honey will still cause a person’s blood glucose levels to spike.

Tried it. Very good. Made it again adding banana, strawberry protein powder, some ground up coconut and some ground up almonds, left out sugar. I don’t know , but it sure did satisfy MY taste buds

Does the milk need to be whole milk or can you use fat free almond or coconut milk and get the same or similar results? Wondering if the fat in whole milk is required to get the ice cream consistency
