Materials Needed For The Diaper Cake:

Making The Diaper Cake

This DIY castle diaper cake is so simple to make! Some of these steps may be a bit repetitive, but I wanted to be sure to lay out all the steps so you could easily recreate this on your own. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Make The Bottom Level

To make the first level of this castle diaper cake, there’s just a couple of steps.

  1. If using a cardboard base, set that on the bottom and build your first level of the diaper cake on top of that.
  2. Roll individual diapers and put a rubberband around each diaper to keep it from unrolling.
  3. Arrange the rolled up diapers in a circle.
  4. Use an extra large rubberband to wrap around all of the diapers to keep them secured in the circle.
  5. Wrap your ribbon around the diaper circle you just created. Cut to size and use a couple dabs of hotglue to secure the ribbon.
  6. Your first layer is complete!

Step 2: Make The Second Level

How simple is this? The second level is going to be made in the same way you made the base, you’ll just make the sections a bit smaller. You can make them any size you need for your cake depending on the size of your base.

  1. Start by making the back section which is slightly larger than the 2 turrets you will make in the front.
  2. Roll up the diapers you need and wrap a rubberband around each one so they don’t unroll.
  3. Arrange the rolled up diapers in a circle (again to the size you need).
  4. Use a large rubberband to wrap around all of the diapers to keep them secured in the circle.
  5. Wrap your ribbon around the diaper circle you just created. Cut to size and use a couple dabs of hotglue to secure the ribbon.
  6. You now have the back section on the second layer of your diaper cake.

Step 3: Make The Two Turrets For The Second Level

This step will be making the 2 small turrets on the second level that are seen in front. Again, this is so simple and going to be more of the same process.

  1. Roll up the diapers you need and wrap a rubberband around each one so they don’t unroll.
  2. Arrange the rolled up diapers in a circle to the size you need (slightly smaller than the middle section you created in step 2).
  3. Use a rubberband to wrap around all of the diapers to keep them secured in the circle.
  4. Wrap your ribbon around the diaper circle you just created. Cut to size and use a couple dabs of hotglue to secure the ribbon.
  5. Do this twice to make the two small turrets

Don’t worry! We will get to the paper cones on top in the last step!

Step 4: Make The Top Turret

This turret will be the 3rd level and top of your DIY castle diaper cake.

  1. Roll up the diapers you need and wrap a rubberband around them so they don’t unroll.
  2. Arrange the rolled up diapers in a circle to the size you need. You will want this turret to be slightly larger than the 2 smaller turrets you created on the level below.
  3. Use a rubberband to wrap around all of the diapers to keep them secured in the circle.
  4. Wrap your ribbon around the diaper circle you just created. Cut to size and use a couple dabs of hotglue to secure the ribbon.
  5. Place on top of your diaper cake!

Step 5: Make The Roofs For The Towers

You’re almost done! Now you just need to make the 3 cones for the tops of the towers you already made out of diapers.

Below is a diagram to help you visualize how to do this! It may take a little trial and error to get the right sized cones you need so I recommend having a couple extra pieces of paper in case you need to redo anything.

  1. Using whatever cardstock paper you purchased, cut out a large circle.
  2. Cut a through the circle, being sure to stop in the center.
  3. You now can overlap the paper over itself to get a cone shape. Once the cone is the shape and size you want it, use some hot glue to secure it closed.
  • Note: The two turrets on the 2nd level will use the same sized cone while the turret on the top of the diaper cake will be slightly larger. Of course, this is completely up to your own creativity and you can make them any size you like.
